EPCS, LLC is a Michigan Limited Liability Company owned by Robert Mammel.
EPCS is principally a software development firm, first established in 1989, in Ingham County, Michigan. The business moved to Gaylord, Michigan in 1992.
EPCS is also an Internet Service Provider (ISP) offering DSL Internet access services to northern Michigan businesses in Gaylord, Grayling, Frederic, Johannesburg and Lewiston. ISP services also include local support, hosting services, software development and WAN related consulting services.
Most developed applications reside on Web servers and are accessed via Web pages written with HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP and MYSQL commands. Some PERL, C++, BASH, AWK, and VisualBasic applications are written. The Typo3 Content Management System is supported for user maintained websites.
With the exception of VisualBasic programs, all development is on a Linux platforms running Apache and QMail. The Dallas server runs the Plesk Control Panel, which among other features gives customers many e-mail account management options.
The leased Linux servers, located in Dallas, Chicago and Trumbull, Connecticut data centers, are optimized for reliable Internet access. The data centers use the BGP4 protocol to redundantly access multiple Tier 1 backbones. Power is backed up with both batteries and generators. Server data are routinely backed up. The servers are attended by operators 24/7. Technical support services are available 24/7. Spare servers and hardware components are on hand to quickly rebuild a failed server. Software is routinely updated and the servers have the latest virus and intrusion protection. The data centers are physically secure with state-of-the-art fire protection.
Robert Mammel's background includes software development, system design and IT management. He has a multi-disciplinary B.S. from Michigan State University with minors in computer science, physical sciences (mostly math), political science (mostly survey design), economics (including labor law) and English history (mostly law and history courses). He worked for State of Michigan software development organizations for ten years, mostly in management. He worked as a networking and printing (laser printer) consultant for Xerox Corporation for six years before starting EPCS in 1989.
